Random Acts: Don Freeman

“We need to stop looking to politicians to make our world better. Politicians don’t make the world a better place. Everything that’s ever made the world a better place has come from inventors, engineers, scientists, teachers, artists, builders, philosophers, healers, and people that choose love over hate.” — Don Freeman

Philadelphia Muses has remained one of the Mural Arts most iconic projects since its creation in 1999. It is intended to be a contemporary interpretation of the classical muses, which Saligman has created an arts landscape filled with figures and elements symbolizing today’s art and creativity. Within the design Saligman uses portraits of local performing artists and references to works of art by local artists, to honor the many forms of creative expression.

  1. It seems that the politicians are not listening to the majority, or even those voters in their districts. They seem to be promoting their own agendas, not those of the majority. I choose love over hate. I choose talking about it instead of burying it. My art is writing, and I’m going to be doing that in the new year.

    1. Exactly! I’ve wrestled hard with the “what can I do about this” after November, and found comfort in two things: writing and the woods. Perhaps comfort is the wrong word, though…breath. I was able to breathe again when I thought about how I could focus on those two things in the shadow of such hate. Let’s get to work, shall we?
